Jaap Stam is hopeful that he will be able to use Nicolai Jørgensen in the relatively short term. The Danish striker has been injured at one knee since the start of the preparation for the new season.

"He is doing well. He is now back on the field and that is already very positive. We look day by day at what his situation looks like and what we can do with him," says Stam Monday on the site of Feyenoord.

"That does not mean that he can play within a few days. He is now working on an individual trajectory. After that he has to train in the group and get used to the group. That requires a certain structure."

As Dylan Vente is not fit in addition to Jørgensen, Feyenoord played the last two games against Dinamo Tbilisi (4-0) and sc Heerenveen (1-1) with winger Steven Berghuis as central attacker.

Stam does not want to reveal yet whether he will play in the same way on Thursday in the return at Tbilisi in the third preliminary round of the Europa League. Given the starting position, he may also save players.

"We take a good look at the fitness of our selection. It is up to us to manage and plan it in such a way that we are as fresh as possible at the kick-off and achieve results with which we will achieve the next round."

Summary Feyenoord-Dinamo Tbilisi (4-0)

"We are still building as a team"

Stam is still disappointed by Sunday's draw against Heerenveen, mainly because the contrast with Tbilisi three days earlier, when Feyenoord was very convincing, was so great.

'It is always difficult to explain exactly how results arise. You saw a difference in freshness with us, while we were a lot less stuck on Sunday. It also has to do with the way the opponent plays. "

"Moreover, as a team we are still building and we still have to grow. We are dealing with young players, who have to play multiple games at a certain level. These are all things to take into account."

Dinamo Tbilisi-Feyenoord starts Thursday at 6:30 PM and will be finished in an empty stadium due to a UEFA penalty for racism for the Georgian club. Up to 140 Feyenoord supporters may be present.

Should Feyenoord successfully defend the 4-0 lead, they will face the Swedish IFK Norrköping or the Israeli Hapoel Beer Sheva in the fourth and final round. The first match between those two clubs in Sweden ended in a 1-1 draw.
