Italian cyclist Domenico Pozzovivo (Bahrain-Merida) broke his arm and leg on Monday after being hit by a car while training outside Cosenza (southern Italy) to prepare for the next Tour of Spain .

Pozzovivo, a 36-year-old climber and a professional since 2005, was hit in the Italian morning by a car at a crossroads and was urgently taken to the " Annunziata " hospital in Cosenza, according to local newspapers.

The cyclist, who recently participated in the Tour de Poland, never lost consciousness, but the exams he underwent at the southern hospital detected a broken arm and leg .

The ambulance was called by the driver of the Fiat Grande Punto car that ran over Pozzovivo, whose accident will prevent him from competing in the Tour of Spain, which will take place between August 24 and September 15.

This year, the Italian had already suffered a serious accident in April, while competing in the Walloon Arrow.
