In Bydgoszcz, today's Team European Championship in athletics was decided. Sweden was last ahead of the final day and needed a lot of good efforts at the same time as the team in front lost points to survive in the top division for the next championship. But even though Erika Kinsey came second in the high jump and Kalle Berglund beat the best, Sweden could not take the lead again.

Melker Svärd Jakobsson beat Lavillenie

The day started off well for the Swedish side when Jesper Hellström beat the personal best in the three stage at 16.53 and took a surprising fourth place and nine points for Sweden. Erika Kinsey was then Sweden's representative in the high jump. Kinsey accounted for really nice jumping and was flawless up to 1.97 where the Swedish tore out. But again a nice second place to Sweden.

When Melker Svärd Jakobsson struck then came second in the pole jump with 5.71, the best outdoors, Sweden climbed on the board. In his second place, Svärd Jakobsson beat French big star Renaud Lavillenie for the first time.

Weak effort by Daniel Ståhl

The big Swedish expectations were set for the day at Daniel Ståhl, but it was a heavy comeback for the discus thrower after the training break. Ståhl's only approved throw for the day reached 61.38 and it became only a third place for the Swede. More pleasing for the Swedish side was Kalle Berglund, who beat the best person in the unfamiliar distance 3000m and it was enough for a second place.
