Ajax has booked the first victory of the Eredivisie season on Saturday. The team of coach Erik ten Hag was at home in the second round with 5-0 too strong for FC Emmen.

Halfway through, the score at the Johan Cruijff ArenA was 1-0 due to a goal from Donny van de Beek. After the break Hakim Ziyech, captain Dusan Tadic and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (twice) further increased the score.

Due to the victory over Emmen, Ajax has four points from two matches. The reigning Dutch champion had started the competition last week with a 2-2 draw at Vitesse.

Ajax is now working towards the return against Tuesday's PAOK Saloniki in the third preliminary round of the Champions League. The driving game in Greece last week ended 2-2 on Tuesday.

The Emmen of trainer Dick Lukkien is still waiting for the first points of the season. In the first round of play, FC Groningen lost 0-1 last week.

Neres hits the post within a minute

Trainer Ten Hag, who left Kasper Dolberg and Perr Schuurs outside the team and opted for David Neres and Razvan Marin, saw his team start fiercely against Emmen on Saturday. Within a minute, Neres hit the post and Van de Beek was close to a hit.

Ajax dominated and not much later there was another chance for Neres. The Brazilian, who signed in Amsterdam just like Ziyech this time, met keeper Dennis Telgenkamp this time.

The Emmen keeper often saw Ajax players popping up in the first half, but carelessness in the often beautiful attacks prevented many really big chances. On the other hand, Emmen was able to counter sometimes, but keeper André Onana was not tested for the same reason.

Yet Ajax went to rest with a lead. Van de Beek, coveted by Real Madrid, was given room to get out and found the far corner. Even in the first half, Tadic had a chance, his heel just wide.

Tadic equals Cruijff and Litmanen

In the second half, the home team went looking for a larger margin and it soon came. After another nice attack, the ball came to Ziyech, who finished in a cool manner.

The goal led to even more one-way traffic in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. A third goal couldn't be missed and after some missed opportunities Tadic made it 3-0 up close.

The Serbian goal was a special one, as it was his 11th in a row in a home game in the Eredivisie. Only Johan Cruijff and Jari Litmanen preceded him.

Despite the reassuring lead, Ajax did not take gas back. The pressure on Emmen's goal remained and it was substitute Huntelaar who led to a larger score with two goals.
