Anna Östling and her team Wings came to Lysekil with hopes for a third World Cup gold after the two previous 2014 and 2016. But after becoming third in the first round with only three lost matches, they left the World Cup against Renée Groeneveld. The Dutchman, who only recovered after the quarter, turned 0-1 in matches against Östling to victory 3-1 against the big Swedish jump.

Young Johanna Bergqvist had 0-2 in matches against Claire Leroy, France, came back to 2-2 before losing the fifth and decisive sailing.

"We were given a position where we had a chance, but unfortunately we did not catch up," Bergqvist said in a press release while looking ahead:

“We take the attitude, how we think before each race, the calm on the boat. If we manage to keep it to Lysekil next year, hopefully it will sit even better. ”

Marie Björling Duell, who was four in the first round, impressed when she beat world set Pauline Courtois in her first quarterfinals match. But Courtois then took three straight and went to the semi-finals.

In the fourth quarterfinals, British world champion Lucy Macgregor easily won, 3-0, over Nicole Breault, USA.

"We ran our race in very light winds and only that makes everything harder, everyone had to concentrate extra to secure a place in the semi-finals."
