Last year there were five dead in electric scooter accident. There were 273 claims in Spain with the so-called personal mobility vehicles (VMP). Of these, 203 were caused by skaters, according to data from the State Attorney General's Office. This week was known the sentence of the first fatal outrage of an electric scooter, in which an old woman died in Esplugues de Llobregat. It resulted in a fine after ruling out that the driver (two people were riding on the scooter) incurred a crime of reckless injury.

The lack of regulation at the state level, the non-existent regulation of some municipalities or the ignorance of certain users make these incidents increase, together with the normalization of their use. To raise awareness and train future skaters (among which there are also minors), the Hoy Voy driving school has launched the first course in Spain of electric scooters. It should be remembered that it is not necessary to have a permit to move with these VMP.

Today Voy is a driving school network that has the majority of its centers in Catalonia. The pilot course is being taught in Barcelona and is free. It is a two-hour capsule that combines a theoretical part and practical exercises through games and simulations with which users face situations in which the reaction capacity is key.

For example, they put on glasses that simulate the vision of a drunk driver. Scooter drivers can be tested for breathalyzer, just like cyclists. The intention of Hoy Voy is to teach this program in the thirty centers that it has and that remains as an option without cost to its users.

"Many drivers are not aware that they are driving a vehicle and that they share space with other vehicles and pedestrians," says Carlos Durán, CEO and founder of the brand. According to recent surveys, 96% of citizens accuse VMP of not complying with traffic regulations. Their competence corresponds to the municipalities. Barcelona or Madrid already codes about it.

With coincidences such as scooters cannot circulate on sidewalks (they have spaces similar to bikes), but with divergences on key issues such as the use of the case or the minimum age of use. In the case of this first course, the norm of the City is being taken as a reference, the first to regulate its use. The first lesson has had 20 participants with a varied profile ...: "Several mothers have come with their children: 'If you don't take the course, I don't buy you the scooter."
