Jaap Stam is very satisfied with the way Feyenoord fought on Thursday evening in the first match against Dinamo Tbilisi. The team from Rotterdam won 4-0 and can hardly miss a place in the play-offs of the Europa League.
"We have won," said a proud Stam after the match in De Kuip against Veronica . "We dominated, played well and remained patient. We were also very defensive. It all looked really nice."
Feyenoord, which led 1-0 just before half-time thanks to a hit by Luis Sinisterra, proved particularly effective in the final phase. Thanks to an own goal, a penalty from Steven Berghuis and a hit from Luciano Narsingh, Feyenoord increased the margin to four in the last ten minutes.
"I can tell from my players that they are hungry and want to," says Stam, who was apprehensive of Dinamo Tbilisi. "Those guys are good, you could see that at times when they found their free man. If Tbilisi gives a lot of time to play football, you can have a hard time. But we dealt with it well."

'I have experienced a lot in career'
Due to the convincing victory, next week's return in Georgia seems a formality. Yet Stam does not want to think about the play-offs, in which Feyenoord will compete against the Swedish IFK Norrköping or the Israeli Hapoel Beer Sheva.
"I've experienced enough crazy things in my own career," the former defender warned. "In Georgia, too, we will have to start the match very sharply. It is especially important to prevent us from getting a counter goal quickly."
The return between Feyenoord and Dinamo Tbilisi is scheduled for Thursday next week. The fifteen-time national champion will play an away game against SC Heerenveen on Sunday in the Eredivisie.
