Sally Pearson talked about her decision at home in Australia on Monday morning. Only 32-year-old is now taking off the hedge runner.

The reason behind this is the injury problems of recent years. The Australian suffered a new injury to the back thigh a month ago, causing the beaker to run over.

- I don't want to go through the pain I did last year. It was too much to take, she says according to the news agency AP.

Won World Gold 2017

The message comes with only weeks left for the Doha World Cup, which begins in September, where Pearson had intended to defend his gold medal from the London 2017 World Cup.

- I leave the sport with the knowledge that I still love it, still love to train and to compete. But my body has decided it's time to quit. I just hope that I get my life back now and that hopefully I can be injury free.

On the track record, Sally Pearson also has an Olympic gold from London 2012, World Championship gold in Daegu 2011 and an Olympic silver from Beijing 2008. Pearson's personal best of 100 meters hurdles is 12.28. As a comparison, Sanna Kallur has the best run of the time 12.49. The Australian's best 2019 year is 12.70.
