Algerian Football Minister Rauf Salim Barnavi said on Monday that the African Football Confederation (CAF) had asked about Algeria's readiness to host the African Cup of Nations in 2021 in case of any emergency.

In a press conference held today, Bernawi said that CAF had inquired, through the Algerian Football Federation (AFF), of Algeria's ability to organize the tournament, with 2021 African nations due to take place in Cameroon.

The tournament was scheduled to be held this year in Cameroon, but CAF withdrew the organization because of the lack of readiness of its stadiums and gave the organization to Egypt with another chance for Cameroon to support the organization of the next version at home.

"We are not seeking compensation for Cameroon, and I wish with all strength that this country will host the African Cup of Nations 2021," he added.

Algeria has invested $ 1.5 billion in building sports facilities, a number that has not even reached European countries, "he said.

Algeria hosted the African Nations Cup once in 1990 and crowned the title for the first time in its history by winning the final against Nigeria with a 1-0 win. The Greens also won the second title in the final edition of the tournament in Egypt.
