Feyenoord started the season in the Eredivisie with loss of points, following Ajax and PSV on Sunday. The team of trainer Jaap Stam played a 2-2 tie at the last minute in the Rotterdam derby in-house against Sparta.

Feyenoord came back twice in the second half from a backlog. Steven Berghuis made the 1-1 after Mohamed Rayhi's 0-1 and Sam Larsson made it 2-2 after Lars Veldwijk's 1-2. It fell deep into injury time.

Stam and Luciano Narsingh made their debut at Feyenoord and Leroy Fer celebrated his comeback. The latter was not received equally warmly by everyone in De Kuip. The fanatical following showed a banner with the text 'we do not eat'.

Due to the surprising draw against Sparta, Feyenoord had a moderate general for Thursday's home game against the Georgian champion Dinamo Tbilisi in the third preliminary round of the Europa League.

On Saturday, Ajax (2-2 at Vitesse) and PSV (1-1 at FC Twente) also failed. It is for the first time since the 1988/89 season that the traditional top three did not win in the opening round of the Eredivisie.

Feyenoord is starting a good competition

Feyenoord started the race well. The home club put the visitors under pressure from the start and that immediately yielded two good chances. Dylan Vente, however, missed the ball and Orkun Kökcü shot through the fingertips of goalkeeper Tim Coremans on the post.

However, the Feyenoord storm then subsided, allowing Sparta to think of attacks and even being dangerous a few times. Bart Vriends headed straight from keeper Kenneth Vermeer and Rayhi also shot into the hands of Vermeer.

Feyenoord nevertheless remained the parent party. The 1-0 was in the air, but again Kökcü (shot in freestanding position next to), Luis Sinisterra (intervention by Dirk Abels) and Steven Berghuis (again a good save by Coremans) were not completely focused.

Shortly after the break, Sparta benefited optimally from the misses with the 0-1, but it was largely thanks to Feyenoord. First Eric Botteghin let himself be surprised by Bryan Smeets, after which Vermeer did not go free with Rayhi's shot.

Feyenoord is straight after 0-1

Feyenoord then straightened out and soon came close to the equalizer a few times. Ridgeciano Haps also found Coremans on his way and Berghuis headed the ball from a quick free kick with no opponent nearby on the post.

With Narsingh (for Vente) and also Sam Larsson (for Sinisterra) as substitutes within the lines, however, the 1-1 could not fail to occur and it also fell midway through the second half. Berghuis tapped in after a tightly measured Haps pass.

Feyenoord opted in full for the attack in the final phase and that initially seemed to be quite expensive. Veldwijk was immediately face-to-face with Vermeer after a fast-paced counter by Sparta and did not fail.

Still Feyenoord dragged another point out of the fire. Larsson got the ball in a wout from Spartanen a tad happily for his feet and then simply brought the 2-2 on the scoreboard, but it really did not cause party joy in De Kuip.
