Jetro Willems will play for Newcastle United next season. The left back is rented by Eintracht Frankfurt for a year to the English club.
An option to purchase is also stipulated in the lease. Earlier on Friday, it was announced that the 25-year-old defender from Frankfurt had received permission to talk to Newcastle.
Willems has since left the Frankfurt training camp in Windischgarsten, Austria. He is under contract with 'Die Adler' until the summer of 2021.
The 22-time Orange international made the switch from PSV to Frankfurt for 5 million euros two years ago. In total he played 46 league matches for his club, in which he did not score any goals.
Last season, Willems played 23 games in the Bundesliga. He only had a basic place seven times.
Frankfurt already lost Haller and Jovic
Because of Willems' temporary departure, Jonathan de Guzman remains the only Dutchman in the number seven of the last Bundesliga season. Earlier this transfer period, the club lost Sébastien Haller (West Ham United) and Luka Jovic (Real Madrid), among others.
Eintracht Frankfurt qualified for the third preliminary round of the Europa League at the expense of Estonian FC Flora (1-2 and 2-1) on Thursday. In it, coach Adi Hütter's team faces FC Vaduz from Liechtenstein.
For Frankfurt, the season in the Bundesliga begins on August 18 with a home game against 1899 Hoffenheim.
