Jetro Willems will probably no longer play for Eintracht Frankfurt this season. The left back got permission from the German club on Friday to talk to another club.
It is unknown at which club 25-year-old Willems is in the spotlight. According to English media, Newcastle United wants to attract the defender.
Willems has since left the Frankfurt training camp in Windischgarsten, Austria. He is under contract with the 'Adler' until the summer of 2021.
The 22-time Orange international made the switch from PSV to Frankfurt for 5 million euros two years ago. In total he played 46 league matches for his club and did not score any goals.
Last season, Willems played 23 games in the Bundesliga. He only had a basic place seven times.
Frankfurt already lost Haller and Jovic
When Willems leaves Frankfurt, Jonathan de Guzman will be the only Dutchman to remain in last season's number seven in the Bundesliga. Earlier this transfer period, the club lost Sébastien Haller (West Ham United) and Luka Jovic (Real Madrid), among others.
Eintracht Frankfurt qualified for the third preliminary round of the Europa League at the expense of Estonian FC Flora (1-2 and 2-1) on Thursday. In it, coach Adi Hütter's team faces FC Vaduz from Liechtenstein.
For Frankfurt, the season in the Bundesliga begins on August 18 with a home game against 1899 Hoffenheim.
