On Monday Ajax won the exhibition game against the Greek OFI Crete with large numbers. The team from Amsterdam triumphed 6-2 in Epe.
Ajax also plays a friendly match against Panathinaikos at 7 p.m., as a result of which trainer Erik ten Hag used his spare players against Crete. Among others Lisandro Magallán, Kik Pierie, Lasse Schöne and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar were at the kick-off.
At half time Ajax led 2-1 through goals from captain Huntelaar and Dani de Wit. Crete equalized at the start of the second half, but thanks to goals from Pierie and again Huntelaar and De Wit, the team from Amsterdam simply ran away from the Greeks.
The best goal of the afternoon was in the name of Schöne. The experienced Dane shot a free kick in the intersection ten minutes before the end and thus signed for the sixth Amsterdam goal.

Siem de Jong also made his appearance, although that was not long-term. The midfielder came in at the end of the first half for the injured Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and was injured after the break.
The match with Crete was the sixth exhibition game in preparation for Ajax for the new season. The Dutch champion previously played against Quick'20 (2-11), Aalborg BK (1-1), Anderlecht (5-2), Istanbul Basaksehir (2-1), Watford (2-1).
Ajax will officially start the new season on Saturday 27 July, when PSV is the opponent in the battle for the Johan Cruijff Scale. The semi-finalist in last season's Champions League starts the Eredivisie on Saturday 3 August with an away game against Vitesse.
