Clarence Seedorf and Patrick Kluivert have to stop as national coach and assistant coach of the Cameroon national team respectively. Both Dutchmen were fired on Tuesday by the board of the Cameroonian Football Association.

Seedorf and Kluivert are being held responsible for missing title proliferation at the Africa Cup this month. Cameroon was eliminated in the eighth finals by a 2-3 loss against Nigeria.

The 'Indomitable Lions' also failed to convince in the group phase. They started with a 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau, but then they were disappointed twice with 0-0 against Ghana and Benin.

The Cameroonian Minister of Sport Narcisse Mouelle Kombi already alluded to a departure from Seedorf on Monday. "The question is whether Seedorf will remain as head of our national selection. The elimination of the African Cup was due to the inability of the trainer," he told the national TV station CRTV .

After the premature exit at the African Cup, Seedorf himself refused to speculate about his future. "I have enjoyed every minute since I started working on this selection. I love being in Africa. We will see what the future holds."

Seedorf and Kluivert have only been in service for eleven months

Seedorf and Kluivert, former teammates of each other at Ajax and the Dutch national team, were only employed by the Cameroonian Football Association for eleven months. They both signed a four-year contract last August, but that was torn up on Tuesday.

Seedorf does not yet have a very happy trainer career. He worked for AC Milan (five months), Shenzhen Xiangxue (five months) and Deportivo La Coruña (four months) for no longer than six months.

Kluivert was in the past technical director of Paris Saint-Germain, national coach of Curaçao, assistant to Louis van Gaal at Orange and worked in various positions at FC Twente and NEC.

André Onana was the goalkeeper for the Africa Cup in Cameroon. The Ajax player made himself available again under Seedorf and Kluivert, after he had temporarily said goodbye as international because he could not get along with predecessor Hugo Broos.
