Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal both reached the half-final match on Wednesday at Wimbledon. The Swiss and the Spaniard will face each other on Friday. Novak Djokovic also joined the last four.

The second placed Federer beat Kei Nishikori. He had to leave the first set to the Japanese number eight on the placement list, but then recovered: 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 and 6-4.

The 37-year-old Swiss, who was surprisingly killed in the quarterfinals last year, finished the game with an ace after more than 2.5 hours of playing. It also meant his hundredth victory on the 'holy grass'. He is the first to succeed in the Open Era.

Federer can write to Wimbledon for the ninth time. He won the tournament earlier in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012 and 2017.

Nadal settles convincingly with Querrey

33-year-old Nadal, who won Wimbledon in 2008 and 2010, set the American Sam Querrey aside in three sets: 7-5, 6-2 and 6-2. The Spaniard decided the game after more than two hours on his first match point.

Querrey could only make it difficult for Nadal in the first set. The global number 65 canceled a break in the tenth game, but only six games in the remainder of the game.

It is the first time since the 2008 final that Federer and Nadal will meet at Wimbledon. At the time, the Mallorcan was too strong for the twenty-time Grand Slam winner in a thriller.

Djokovic grants Goffin only six games

The 32-year-old Djokovic was bothered by David Goffin, the number 21 of the placement list, in the first set: 6-4, 6-0 and 6-2.

Remarkably, Goffin took the first break of the game. The Belgian broke the service of Djokovic in the seventh game, but the Serbian recovered very well by winning no less than ten games in a row.

Goffin managed to win a game again in set three in a 1-0 deficit, but immediately returned his service. The solid Djokovic struck his first match point at a score of 5-2.

The defending champion preys on the London grass on his fifth victory. He won the third Grand Slam tournament of the year in 2011, 2014, 2015 and thus last year.

Djokovic meets Bautista Agut in half final battle

In the semi-final, Djokovic faces the Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, who with 7-5, 6-4, 3-6 and 6-3 was too strong for the Argentinian Guido Pella, the number 26 in the world.

The 31-year-old Bautista Agut is standing for the first time in his career in the semi-final of a Grand Slam tournament. His best performance at Wimbledon achieved the global number 22 earlier this year with a quarter-final spot at the Australian Open.

Earlier in the tournament, Pella surprised both South African Kevin Anderson, last year's losing finalist, and Canadian Milos Raonic, who reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 2014.

Later on Wednesday, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are still in action. Federer meets the Japanese Kei Nishikori and Nadal takes on the American Sam Querrey.
