The Dutch women's team failed in the World Cup final against the United States. An unfortunately stubborn habit in Dutch football that still runs after a world title.

From our special correspondent in Lyon,

The curse continues for football teams in the Netherlands. After three men's defeats in the World Cup final (1974, 1978 and 2010), it is now women's turn to experience the disappointment of seeing their dreams take flight on the last step. The players of the Netherlands have indeed cracked against the United States in their first world final, this Sunday, July 7 in Lyon (defeat 2-1).

The parallel with the men goes even further: the two selections were more successful at the European level, men winning the title in 1988 when women won in 2017. It is even on the occasion of the last Euro, played at home, that the Netherlands have made a name for themselves in women's football. Prior to that victory, their biggest feat was to play in the knockout stages of the 2015 World Cup, the first of which the women's selection.

This sudden rise in power also brings the players to a certain modesty. As proof, contrary to the players from the Netherlands who had marched on the Amsterdam canals after their defeat in the final against Spain in 2010, they have already announced that they would not do the same. celebration. One way, no doubt, to say that they, at least, are not satisfied with a second place!
