VVV-Venlo has on Thursday sold on Peniel Mlapa to Al Ittihad Kalba. The Limburgers recently took over the 28-year-old Togolese striker after a successful rental period from Dynamo Dresden.
Two weeks ago, VVV reportedly paid around € 500,000 to be owned by Mlapa and would now receive around € 1.2 million, making it a nice profit.
Mlapa has had a good season at VVV. With fifteen goals he was the top scorer of the black-and-yellow formation in the Eredivisie.
Managing Director Marco Bogers grants Mlapa, who signs a two-year contract with Al Ittihad Kalba, this new step in his career.
"He was enormously important to us last season and we knew it would be difficult to keep him. In recent days, we have been negotiating intensively about Peniel's transition. For him, this transition is of course great."
Mlapa not the only one to United Arab Emirates
Earlier this summer, VVV also saw trainer Maurice Steijn, his son Sem Steijn and assistant trainer Jay Driessen leaving for the United Arab Emirates. They committed themselves to Al Wahda.
Al Wahda and Al Ittihad Kalba both play at the highest level in the United Arab Emirates. Al Wahda finished third last season and Al Ittihad Kalba eleventh out of a total of fourteen clubs.
VVV appointed Robert Maaskant as successor to Maurice Steijn on Tuesday. He comes from Almere City, where he was technical director, and takes Raymond Libregts as an assistant.
The number twelve of the past season with Elia Soriano (Korona Kielce), Richard Neudecker (St. Pauli FC), Thorsten Kirschbaum (Bayer Leverkusen) and Steffen Schäfer (1. FC Magdeburg) are currently only selling this transfer window in Germany.
