The Champions League match between Ajax and Real Madrid is Wednesday night led by Polish referee Szymon Marciniak.

He is assisted in the ArenA by fellow countrymen Pawel Sokolnicki and Tomasz Listkiewicz. Tomasz Musial is the fourth official and Pawel Gil and Pawel Raczkowski are the video referees.

The VAR is making its debut in the Champions League for the first time in the knockout phase. Before the winter break, UEFA added a fifth and sixth official to the rear line.

The 38-year-old Marciniak once closed a duel of Ajax. That was in the semi-final of the Europa League in 2017 against Olympique Lyon in which the team from Amsterdam placed itself despite the 3-1-defeat for the final battle. Marciniak gave red to former Ajax player Nick Viergever in Lyon.

Ajax and Real compete against each other in the eighth finals of the Champions League, the match starts at 9 PM. The return is on March 5 in Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.
