"The racing director of Formula 1 FIA Charlie Whiting died this morning (March 14, 2019) in Melbourne as a result of a pulmonary embolism," the report said.
It is noted that Whiting began working in Formula 1 in 1977. He joined the International Automobile Federation in 1988.
The report indicates that Charlie Whiting has served as the FIA racing director since 1997.
"I know Charlie Whiting for many years, he was a great racing director, a central and irreplaceable figure in Formula One," said Federation President Jean Todt.
In February, the former England goalkeeper Gordon Banks died.
