Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp said he would be disappointed if defender Virgil van Dijk was not awarded the 2019 Player of the Year award by the Association of Professional Footballers in England after a "fantastic" season.

The Dutchman has boosted Liverpool's defense since joining Southampton in January 2018 and helped the Merseyside team score 18 times in clean nets this season.

The 27-year-old has missed just 35 minutes of Premier League football all season, with Liverpool coming close to winning his first league title in 29 years.

"I would definitely be sad if Van Dyck did not win the Player of the Year award," club told reporters.

Of course, last year Manchester City's Kevin De Bruin and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah gave incredible offers and Salah won the award. "

Van Dyck is one of six players competing for the award - the winner of which will be announced on the 28th of this month - as well as his teammate Sadio Mani, Eddin Hazard of Chelsea, City City Rahim Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Bernardo Silva.
