VfL Wolfsburg has come close to TSG Hoffenheim. The VfL won 4-1 (1: 1) at the TSG and has a good chance of taking part in the European Cup in the coming season.

The first quarter of an hour had it all. Wolfsburg dominated and earned chances, TSG coach Julian Nagelsmann switched early on 4-4-2. After Hoffenheim came into play better, a nice combination led to the 1-0 after nine minutes. Nico Schulz put across the Wolfsburg goal, Ádám Szalai pressed the ball with the outside rest over the line.

Hoffenheim were then clearly superior, with a shot from Ishak Belfodil directing VfL goalkeeper Pavao Pervan to the crossbar. In the area there was a scramble in the fight for the rebound, Belfodil and Schulz went to the ground one after another. After watching the video images referee Deniz Aytekin decided on penalty. Andrej Kramaric, otherwise a sure shot, sent Pervan into the wrong corner, but only shot against the post (15 minutes).

Many chances, Baumann's mistake

The next good opportunity came in the 27th minute - but then for Wolfsburg. Center Back Robin Knoche headed for the TSG goal, but Oliver Baumann parried strongly. The keeper was also there for the shot from Maximilian Arnold (39 '), who was tough but out of place. William did a lot better. The Brazilian tapped the ball from the left to 1: 1 in the far corner, Baumann was this time no chance (41).

Both teams played well in the second half, but there were not many good chances. Hoffenheim's defender Kasim Adams headed the ball after 67 minutes but missed a corner.

Shortly thereafter, the scene of the game occurred: A cross from William sailed in the direction of Hoffenheim six-yard space. The just offensively good Adams misjudged and let Wout Weghorst come to the header. But the angle was sharp, Baumann stood well. No problem at all, but the goalkeeper spun the ball out of the arms (69.).

After that, nothing worked out at Hoffenheim, almost everything at Wolfsburg.

Also at the third Wolfsburg goal Baumann did not look innocent. Arnold ran to him from an acute angle, his massive shot went between keeper and post through the gate to 3-1 (85.). Weghorst then even scored the 4: 1 for Wolfsburg, the Hoffenheim defense had their work as well as set.
