The fifth and final day of the African Athletics Championships ended with a new gold medal for Ivory Coast's Marie Josée Ta Lou on the 200m. Great favorite of the 800m, the South African Caster Semenya held its rank.

At the start of the day, Ethiopian Yehualeye Beletew won the 20km walk in front of Kenyan Grace Wanjiru and Tunisia's Chahimez Nasri. On the men's side, Kenya's Samuel Gathimba took the title ahead of South Africa's Lebogang Shange and Tunisia's Hassana Sebei.

In the women's 3,000m steeplechase , three Kenyans went on the podium: Beatrice Chepkoech, Cellipine Chespol and Fancy Cherono.

After her gold medal in the 100 meters, the Ivorian Marie Josée Ta Lou is illustrated on the 200 meters . She thus achieved a double at these African Championships. " I wanted to bring back this second gold medal, whatever the cost. My mission here is coming to an end, but the season is not over yet. I will continue to train for the next events and I am happy to return to Côte d'Ivoire with these two titles, "said the sprinter microphone RFI. Cameroon's Bevina Abessolo is vice-champion of Africa and Janet Amponsah of Ghana completes the podium.

Moroccan Lamia Lhabz takes the money on the 400m hurdles . She is beaten by Nigerian Nathaniel Glory. South African Wenda Nel is third.

In women's triple jump , Nigerian Grace Anigbata adds a new gold medal to the host country.

The South African Caster Semenya (Olympic champion and world champion) logically wins the 800m . Burundian Francine Niyonsabbe is her runner-up, while Ethiopia's Bayih Habitam Alemu takes bronze.

Malian Fodé Sissoko placed 5th in the men's 200m, won by South African Ncincilili Titi. Gambian Adama Jammeh ranks 8th. Nigerian Oduduru Ejowvokoghene is silver while South Africa's Luxolo Adams takes bronze.

Kenya won the men's 4x400 final in front of South Africa and Nigeria. In women, Nigerians take first place.

Kenyan Julius Yego, who wins the javelin event, is one of the athletes who helped this East African nation climb to the top of the medal standings. His compatriot Edward Zakayo won the 5,000m . Another Kenyan, Manangoi Motonei sweeps the 1,500m . The representatives of Kenya leave with 11 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze. South Africa and Nigeria finish 2nd and 3rd respectively with 9 gold medals each.

In 2020, Algeria will host the next African Athletics Championships.
