In freezing cold, rescuers are racing against time to try to rescue survivors in the aftermath of the powerful earthquake, the ever-worsening toll of which now exceeds 8,300 dead in Turkey and Syria.

According to Harlem Désir, former MEP and Vice-President of the IRC (International Rescue Committee), "it's a race against time, but also a race for access to populations who are sometimes very isolated, including in the rural areas, very far from urban centers".
