In the early hours of the 31st, in Nishime, Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, a mountain behind houses and empty houses collapsed from 20 to 30 meters in height and about 100 meters in width, and about 10 buildings were involved and collapsed.

A man in his 80s and his wife in their 70s lost contact with the landslide, and about 260 police, firefighters, and the Self-Defense Forces, who had been dispatched by the prefecture, searched through the night. and the search continues on New Year's Day.



According to Tsuruoka City, two people, a man in his 70s and a woman in her 60s, were rescued at the scene, and both suffered minor injuries.



The man who was rescued was caught in a landslide while he was sleeping on the second floor of his home, and told NHK that he heard a sound like a tornado and a large tree entered the house. I think it was a miracle that I was saved."



In part of the Nishime district, where evacuation orders have been issued, the whereabouts of 20 of the 22 residents in eight households, including two who were rescued, have been confirmed. It means that the new year has passed at a substitute hotel.
