It has been 40 years since the flood in Nagasaki, which killed 299 people, in 23 days.


A memorial service was held in the mountainous area of ​​Nagasaki City, where many residents were killed, and the attendees prayed to the victims.

The "Nagasaki Great Flood" that occurred on July 23, 1982 caused heavy rainfall such as the highest rainfall of 187 mm per hour in the history of observation in Japan in Nagayo Town next to Nagasaki City. The number of dead and missing people due to the flooding has risen to 299.



On the 23rd, 40 years after the flood, a memorial service was held in the Kawahiramachi Uchihira district in the mountains of Nagasaki City, where the debris flow killed 34 people, the largest number in one district.



Approximately 40 people, including residents and bereaved families, attended and prayed to the victims in silence when the siren of the disaster prevention administration radio sounded at 11:00 am.

Koichi Matsumoto (66), whose aunt was sacrificed, said, "Since my aunt did a good job, my memories passed through my head in the middle of the sutra. I feel 40 years in a blink of an eye."



Mr. Tsuneo Ozaki (82), chairman of Kawahiramachi Autonomy, said, "I want to get information from the news and evacuate as soon as possible so as not to suffer a disaster."
