It has been one year since July 3rd, when a large-scale debris flow occurred in the Izusan district of Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture.


Twenty-seven people have been killed, including disaster-related deaths, and one is still unknown.


We look back on the damage caused by the debris flow.

On that day, the embankment created in the upper reaches of the river flowing through the district collapsed, and the muddy stream flowed down with a tremendous force, causing damage to 136 houses and other buildings.

The area around the river where the earth and sand flowed down is designated as a caution area, and it is still off limits for one year after the outbreak.



As a result, as of the end of May, 235 people from 132 households were forced to live away from their hometowns.
