Before the heavy rain season, Yamaguchi University and others developed a VR = virtual reality video that allows you to experience how it rains, and an experience meeting was held at the university on the 6th.

Yamaguchi University has developed a VR image that allows you to experience how it rains in collaboration with the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention in order to reduce the damage caused by delays in escape by giving people the image of heavy rain.

This VR video experience event was held on the campus of Ube City, and graduate students participated.

This VR image was taken using the "Large Rainfall Experiment Facility" of the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention, and the rain that exceeds 60 mm to 300 mm per hour is captured by the 360-degree camera image from the viewpoint of holding an umbrella. It has been.

At the experience session, images were projected on a dome-shaped display, and when the hourly rainfall exceeded 180 mm, the students were overwhelmed by the way it rained and the sounds they had never experienced.

The graduate student who experienced it said, "It was more immersive and the effect of the audio was completely different compared to the flat video. I felt that it was expressed quite realistically."

Professor Yoshihisa Akamatsu of Yamaguchi University, who developed it, said, "With VR goggles, the screen becomes cloudy, and with Korona-ka, it is necessary to disinfect the goggles themselves, but with displays, there is no such concern in the future. I also want to aim for free release. "
