At Mt. Ontake on the prefectural border between Nagano and Gifu, the eruption alert level was raised to "2" on the afternoon of the 22nd due to increased volcanic activity.

In response to this, a liaison meeting between Nagano Prefecture and related organizations was held on the night of the 23rd, and the person in charge of the meteorological observatory expressed the view that it is necessary to continue vigilance for the next few weeks or more.

On the afternoon of the 22nd, volcanic activity increased at Mt. Mitake, such as an increase in volcanic earthquakes, and the Meteorological Agency raised the eruption alert level to 2 because there is a possibility of an eruption affecting the area around the crater, about 1 km from the crater. We are calling for caution in the area of large volcanic blocks that accompany eruptions.

In response to this, Nagano Prefecture held an online liaison meeting on the night of the 23rd, with the participation of persons in charge such as the Meteorological Observatory, Kiso Town and Otaki Village at the foot of the mountain.

In this, the person in charge of the meteorological observatory expressed the view that it is necessary to continue to be vigilant for the next few weeks or more because the eruption occurred after the volcanic earthquakes increased and the volcanic activity temporarily subsided during the 2014 eruption.

In addition, police and municipal officials at the foot of the

mountain reported that access to the mountain trail leading to the mountaintop is currently restricted during the winter mountain season, and

that no one has been confirmed so far.

The prefecture and related organizations will continue to collect information and take precautions.
