According to the USGS = US Geological Survey, there was an earthquake off the coast of New Zealand at around 4:28 am Japan time.
The epicenter is off the Kermadec Islands north of New Zealand, with an estimated depth of approximately 10 kilometers and an estimated magnitude of 8.0.
NOAA = National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is investigating the risk of tsunami caused by this earthquake.
