Renesas Electronics, which had been rushing to increase production in response to the global semiconductor shortage, has shut down its factory in Ibaraki Prefecture, which produces semiconductors for automobiles, to check for damage from the earthquake.

According to Renesas Electronics, the operation was suspended at the Naka Factory, which produces semiconductors for automobiles in Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture.

No damage has been confirmed to the building or equipment so far, but the factory was temporarily cut off due to the earthquake.

After that, the power outage was restored, but the operation was stopped to check if there was any damage to the manufacturing equipment and products of the facility called the clean room, which is the heart of the factory.

It is undecided at this time when to resume operations.

The company is rushing to increase production to meet the global semiconductor shortage, and the factory was scheduled to operate on the 14th of the holidays.

This factory was damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake and has been shut down, so we are urgently checking the impact on the parts procurement network and the entire supply chain in order to resume operations as soon as possible.

On the other hand, the Yonezawa Factory in Yamagata Prefecture and the Takasaki Factory in Gunma Prefecture, which also produce semiconductors, have not been damaged and have been in operation for 14 days.
