On the night of the 8th, an 81-year-old man was found lying down in an aqueduct in Toyama City, and he was confirmed dead on the spot.

The man was missing after leaving the house after telling his family that he was "plowing snow in front of the house," and police are investigating that the man may have fallen into an aqueduct.

Around 7 pm on the 8th, a family member discovered that Kenichi Yamaguchi (81), a part-time worker living nearby in the Zenna irrigation canal in Toyama City, had collapsed on his face and was confirmed dead on the spot.

According to the police, Mr. Yamaguchi told his family "I will remove the snow in front of the house" after noon on the 8th, and after leaving the house, he was lost and the family and the police were looking for it.

A shovel for snow removal was left in front of Mr. Yamaguchi's house.

Mr. Yamaguchi was discovered in a "water collecting box" located downstream of the irrigation canal that runs beside his house, which was 1 meter long and 1 meter wide and 1 meter deep.

Police are investigating that Mr. Yamaguchi may have fallen into an aqueduct and was washed away in an attempt to remove snow.

In Toyama City, it was a record heavy snowfall on the night of the 8th, with the snowfall reaching 1 meter for the first time in 35 years.

When it snows, it becomes difficult to see the boundary between the irrigation canal and the road, and experts have pointed out that if you fall into cold water, the body temperature inside your body will drop and you will fall into hypothermia. You need to be very careful.
