Prepared for large-scale typhoon blackouts Dispatched staff to Kyushu, etc. Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry September 4, 19:29

In preparation for a large-scale power outage in the Kyushu region due to the effect of Typhoon No. 10, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has begun to send staff to the site in advance to grasp the damage and assist in recovery.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will dispatch more than 30 staff members to seven prefectures in Kyushu, Ehime Prefecture, and Kochi Prefecture from the 4th in preparation for a large-scale power outage caused by Typhoon No. 10.

Employees are packed in the prefectural offices and electric power companies of each prefecture, and in the event of a power outage, promptly grasp the actual situation of the damage and request the electric power company to deploy a power supply vehicle in facilities where power is indispensable, such as hospitals and nursing facilities. Or to coordinate with related organizations that will be needed for power recovery.

In Typhoon No. 15 that caused major damage to Chiba Prefecture in September last year, up to approximately 930,000 homes were shut down due to the collapse of steel towers and utility poles within the TEPCO's jurisdiction, and it took more than two weeks to recover.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry decided to dispatch this time based on lessons learned from the damage at that time, so it is an unusual response to send a large number of staff to the site in advance in preparation for a power outage.

Kajiyama, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, said at a press conference on the 4th, "Using the lessons learned from last year's typhoon, we instructed the staff to be fully prepared to prepare for damage such as power outages."
