Nine years ago, in the heavy rain on the Kii Peninsula on September 4, 2011, a record heavy rainfall caused by a typhoon caused a series of large-scale sediment disasters and river floods in Wakayama, Nara, and Mie Prefectures, resulting in deaths and disappearances. There were a total of 88 unknown persons.

Of these, in Wakayama prefecture, 60 people have been killed and one is missing.

A memorial service was held in the Iseki district of Nachi Katsuura Town, where the number of victims was the highest in the prefecture, around 1 am when it was said that a disaster had occurred.

Twenty-five people, including the bereaved, quietly joined hands to mourn the victims.

Every year, a candle is handmade by a local elementary school student and the like, but because this thing could not be made together due to the influence of the new coronavirus, the candle of the LED light was also attached.

Michio Iwabuchi, the representative of the bereaved family who lost his father and son, said, "It is important to continue the memory of heavy rain to future generations in order to prevent such damage from occurring again. It doesn't change."
