It has been 9 years and 5 months in 11 days since the Great East Japan Earthquake. Local people visited the temple in Yamada Town, Iwate Prefecture, which killed more than 830 people in the tsunami from the morning.

Ryoko Furukawa (81) visited the grave of her husband, Shozo (75 at the time) who was killed in the tsunami while working at a local facility for the elderly.

Mr. Furukawa says that Obon visits the grave every year with five grandchildren living inside and outside the prefecture, but due to the effect of the new coronavirus, Kotobuki visited the grave alone.

Mr. Furukawa said, "I'm lonely that I can't visit with my grandson, and I'm sorry for my husband. I'm a kind person, so I think I'll be happy to visit alone," he said.
