Oita Kuju Mountains 14:30 on July 19th, a series of mountain trails that cannot pass due to landslides

Due to the effect of landslides caused by record heavy rain, we found a series of inaccessible mountain trails at the "Kuju Mountains" that spans Kuju Town and Takeda City in Oita Prefecture. The Ministry of the Environment's visitor center calls for refraining from unreasonable mountaineering.

The "Kuju Mountain Range", which spans Kuju Town and Takeda City, is one of the "100 Famous Mountains of Japan" with mountains over 1700 meters above sea level, and is visited by approximately 200,000 climbers every year.

According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of the Environment's Chojahara Visitor Center, which sends out information about mountaineering, a series of mountain trails that were inaccessible due to a large amount of sediment flowing in due to record heavy rainfall were found.

Of these, the mountain trail near the center is completely covered with a large amount of earth and sand for several tens of meters.

A survey of mountain trails alone is expected to take up this month, and the Center publishes maps showing dangerous locations on its website at any time based on the survey results.

"If you plan to climb the mountain, be sure to check the latest information on the website and refrain from unreasonable mountain climbing," said Hideo Tanemura, director of the Chojahara Visitor Center.
