According to the Yatsushiro River National Highway Office, the Kuma River is flooding at Kuma Village in Kumamoto Prefecture, Sakamoto Town in Yatsushiro City, Kamiaoi Town in Hitoyoshi City, Shiraishi in Ashikita Town, and Ashikita Town. In addition to confirming evacuation information from municipalities, we are calling for appropriate disaster prevention actions such as ensuring safety.
A video taken by NHK Kumamoto Broadcaster from the second floor of his home in Hitoyoshi city shows that the river water overflows in the center of Hitoyoshi city and the car is flooded to the windshield. The water level was so high that the bridge disappeared in about 10 minutes.
