This “Memorial Gathering” has been held at “Kunyoike Park” in Itami City by a local volunteer organization the year after the earthquake.

The same number of 6,434 candles that had died in the earthquake were lit, and everyone shut up at 5:46 pm, 12 hours before the time of the earthquake.

The candles said, "I will not forget the disaster" or "Take care of my life," and the participants quietly mourned the victims.

A 46-year-old man who came with his 10-year-old son said, "It was an opportunity to tell my son about the disaster. I want to share my memories of that time and use it for future preparations." .

The candles are to remain lit until 5:46 am on the 17th.
