Typhoon No. 15 Recognized as Disaster-Related Death In Chiba Prefecture, First Dec. 23 12:24

In Chiba Prefecture, where power outages continued due to Typhoon No. 15 in September, a woman in Minamiboso City and a man in Tomisato City, who died of suspected heatstroke, were recognized as disaster-related deaths. This is the first time that typhoon No. 15 has recognized disaster-related deaths in the prefecture.

A 93-year-old female in Minamiboso and an 84-year-old male in Tomisato were identified as disaster-related deaths, respectively.

According to Chiba Prefecture and others, a 93-year-old woman from Minamiboso City was found unconsciously on a futon at home around 2:00 pm on September 10, the day after the typhoon landed, and was transported to a hospital. He died on suspicion of heat stroke.

At that time, the area where women lived was affected by typhoons, and power outages continued, and the air conditioner at women's homes was not working.

An 84-year-old man from Tomisato City was found to have collapsed in his house around 11 am on September 9, the day of the typhoon landing, and his death was confirmed by a doctor.

Due to power outages, the usual oxygen inhaler became unavailable due to a power outage, and the man himself tried to switch to a portable oxygen cylinder, but it was apparently unsuccessful.

As a result of examination based on application from each city, office cooperative made in the municipalities of the prefecture recognized all as disaster-related death.

Typhoon No. 15 is the first disaster-related death certification in Chiba Prefecture.
