Damage to agriculture, forestry and fisheries caused by successive typhoons and heavy rain

The damage from agriculture, forestry and fisheries related to typhoon No. 19 last month and the subsequent heavy rain exceeded 220 billion yen, and when combined with the damage caused by typhoon No. 15 in September, it exceeded 275 billion yen.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Typhoon No. 19 last month and the subsequent damage caused by agriculture, forestry and fisheries due to heavy rains totaled 222.8 billion yen in 38 prefectures as of 7:00 am on the 8th.

Of these, damage to agricultural facilities such as ponds and irrigation canals reached 17,500, and the damage amounted to 89.4 billion yen.

In addition, damage to crops such as rice and apples was 18,900 hectares, and the damage amounted to 13.3 billion yen.

Furthermore, forestry-related damage such as forest roads and wood processing facilities was 62.7 billion yen, and fishery-related damage such as fishing port facilities was 10.7 billion yen.

The amount of damage is expected to increase further, especially in areas where flooding has spread over a wide area, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is rushing to grasp the full extent of the damage.

The damage caused by Typhoon No. 15 in September amounted to 52.3 billion yen, and the combined damage from Typhoon No. 19 and subsequent heavy rains exceeded 27 billion yen.

In the last few years of disasters, the scale of damage was the second after the heavy rain in western Japan last July, when the damage amounted to 340 billion yen.
