The record heavy rain of Typhoon No. 19 broke down the Chikuma River embankment in the Hoho district of Nagano City, flooding around 950 hectares, killing two people near the site, and flooding many houses. There were many people who were damaged and left behind in their homes.

The Hokuriku Regional Development Bureau has been proceeding with construction of a temporary levee since 13th of this month as an emergency restoration to prevent river water from leaking from the broken levee and spreading the breach. It finished at 11:50 pm on the day.

The Hokuriku Regional Development Bureau will investigate the detailed cause of the breakup in a committee of experts and proceed with the study of construction methods for full-scale restoration.

In addition, the Chikumagawa River Office, which has been announced jointly with the Nagano Local Meteorological Observatory, has a temporary levee strength that is still in Nakano City, Nagano Prefecture. We will release the information by setting the standard of “evacuation judgment water level” and “flooding dangerous water level” at Tachigahana Water Level Observatory lower by 2.8 meters than before.
