Typhoon 19 Tochigi specialty strawberry farm also damaged October 14th 11:50

Due to the impact of Typhoon No. 19, in Tochigi Prefecture, seedlings have been damaged by water even in specialty strawberry farmhouses.

Tochigi Prefecture has the highest shipment volume of strawberries in the country, and this season, the main varieties “Tochiotome” have been shipped from the 2nd of this month.

In Kanuma City, one of the prefecture's leading strawberry production areas, heavy rain caused by Typhoon 19 flooded rivers and agricultural waterways, causing damage to agricultural houses.

Among them, at the house of Mr. Koichi Nakata (71), a strawberry farmer in Kashiwagi, Kanuma City, muddy water flowed from the irrigation channel, and all Tochiotome seedlings were submerged in the water, and some of the seedlings were washed away. On the 14th, I was working on scavenging the water that flowed into the house and removing trash.

Mr. Nakata cultivates approximately 15,000 strawberry seedlings in six houses, and is aiming for shipment in early December. It means that there is concern about the growth delay.

Mr. Nakata said, “All the strawberries are filled with water, and we are constantly worried about the cultivation, but we want to do our best to make sure to deliver good strawberries to everyone.”
