Joshin-etsu Expressway fills up due to typhoon Emergency work to be completed About 10 days or October 15

On the down line between the Usui Karuizawa Interchange in Gunma Prefecture and the Saku Interchange in Nagano Prefecture on the Joshinetsu Expressway, the embankment under the road was found to be urgently under construction. The construction will be closed with a prospect of about 10 days.

Due to the impact of Typhoon No. 19, Joshinetsu Expressway was temporarily closed at all sections through Nagano Prefecture.

After that, the East Japan Expressway and others patrolled to release the closed road. It means that cracks were found over 3 centimeters and 20 meters in length.

For this reason, the East Japan Expressway decided to carry out urgent countermeasure work, and it was decided to continue the closure of the upper and lower lines between Matsuida Myogi Interchange and Saku Interchange in Gunma Prefecture.

According to the East Japan Expressway, heavy rain caused by Typhoon No. 19 caused water to penetrate into the embankment, and the embankment was deformed due to the rise of the underground water level, resulting in cracks in the road.

The construction will start on the 15th and will take about 10 days to complete.
