Typhoon number 15

Last month, when Typhoon No. 15 approached, the Port of Yokohama was damaged by a higher wave than expected, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism prepared measures for the largest wave that could occur in Tokyo Bay in the future. Will be considered.

Due to the high waves caused by typhoon No. 15 last month, the seawalls broke down at several locations in Yokohama Port, and in Kanazawa Ward, Yokohama City, seawater flowed in a wide area of the industrial park, causing serious damage such as machine breakage. .

In response, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism launched an expert committee to consider countermeasures against high waves in Tokyo Bay on the 8th.

At the first meeting held in Yokohama, the person in charge of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said that off the coast of Yokohama Port, where the severe damage occurred, waves of the same period overlapped from the two directions of east-northeast and southeast at that time. Showed the view that rushed to the coast.

In Tokyo Bay, countermeasures against storm surges have been studied so far, but in the bay, damage from high waves has hardly been discussed because of the relatively small effect of waves.

For this reason, the Committee will continue to consider measures such as reviewing the design of the revetment, assuming the largest wave that may occur in Tokyo Bay.
