Special product horse mackerel could not be landed due to a power outage, fishing port in the south of Chiba prefecture, 16 September, 16:17

The fishing port in southern Chiba facing Tokyo Bay has been affected by prolonged power outages due to typhoons, and special products such as horse mackerel cannot be landed.

In Futtsu City, Chiba Prefecture, and the fishing port in Kōnan-cho, facing Tokyo Bay, horse mackerel called “golden horse mackerel”, which is loaded with fat, is landed from June to September. .

However, power outages continue at many fishing ports, and at Kanaya fishing port in Futtsu, pumps for refueling fishing boats cannot be used, and ice producers cannot make ice to keep fish fresh. This means that the stock is running out.

Fisherman Shota Ando (29) said, “If there is no ice, the freshness of the fish will drop, and the fish shop will not buy even the fish immediately after landing. I want the electricity to be restored soon.”

Also, at Hota Fishing Port in Konancho, the seawater used to keep the fish caught is not pumped up, and fishing continues.

In each port, fishing boats can be put out if the power failure is resolved and refueling is possible, but because the typhoon has broken the net to catch fish and the ice making machine is broken, it is not known whether it can be landed immediately .

Shuhei Kato, Secretary General of the Yasuda Fishery Cooperative (42) said, “When fishers are unable to fish, their sources of income are cut off.
