Smile at the school building after reopening elementary and junior high school The school lunch center cannot cook Tateyama September 13, 16:39

In Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture, where the effects of large-scale power outages continue, all elementary and junior high schools were temporarily closed, but classes resumed at some schools where power outages were resolved. However, the facility of the local school lunch center is partially broken, and it is said that the center is aiming for recovery in the end of next month.

All 14 elementary and junior high schools in Tateyama city were closed from the 9th, but classes resumed at 7 elementary and junior high schools where power outages were resolved from the 12th to the 13th.

Of these, at Tateyama Elementary School, which resumed on the 13th, approximately 360 children attended the school, and smiles and cheerful appearances were seen during the holidays.

Classes are only available in the morning due to the lack of school lunch.

Before going to school, the teacher in the 4th grade class said, “I think the situation of damage in each family is different, but don't forget to thank you for helping many people. “Let's meet at school”, and the children responded “Yes” with a loud voice.

A boy in the 4th grade said, “The power outage continued and it was dark and hard. I was very happy to meet my favorite friends.”

Mr. Masashi Matsuda said, “I'm glad I could see the smiles of my children. I want them to get back to their daily lives as soon as possible.”

Lunch center Aims for recovery in late next month

On the other hand, the school lunch center, which provides school lunches in Tateyama city, has been unable to make school meals because the roof of the building has been partially broken. The facility will be restored late next month.

“The situation is difficult because it is difficult to arrange contractors for restoration work,” says Shigeki Hamada, director of the Tateyama City School Lunch Center.
