This is a mechanism that allows users to purchase devices such as smartphones in installments for 48 months, exempt the remaining payments on the condition that the devices are traded in after the 25th month and replaced with new models. The real purchase price is said to be half the maximum. A monthly fee of 390 yen is required to join the system.
A feature of this system is that discounts can also be used by people using other companies' lines that do not have a communication contract with SoftBank. Under the new rules for mobile charges that will be introduced next month, there is an upper limit of 20,000 yen for discounts on devices purchased when signing a communication contract. Softbank explains that the new system can be discounted in excess of 20,000 yen because it is concluded separately from the communication contract.
In addition, the company will abolish the so-called “two-year binding” that discounts communication charges on the condition of a two-year contract in accordance with the new rules for mobile charges.
