Typhoon No.13 Okinawa, Miyako Island

In Miyakojima, Okinawa Prefecture, where Typhoon No. 13 approached and passed, the power outage continued on most of the island, and the gymnasium roof was blown away.

In Miyakojima, which was involved in a storm for over 19 hours, as of 8:00 pm on June 6, there were still 13,000 outages in about half of the city.

On the island, traffic lights stop at various intersections, and police officers are handling traffic.

In downtown, most restaurants were closed due to power outages. A woman working at a coffee shop said, “The power outage has been going on for a long time, so the contents of the refrigerator are the most worrisome.” According to Okinawa Electric Power, power outages will be resolved throughout the city on the night of the 7th.

In the Miyakojima City Gymnasium, the strong roof caused the iron roof to fly about 7 meters square, and the roof debris was scattered on the floor. Miyakojima City Lifelong Learning Department Director Akira Shimoji said, “It was more than expected. I wanted to take immediate measures such as rushing and covering with a sheet to prevent rain leaks.”
