Hybrid or electric car: what is better?

It is only a matter of time before the plug-in car dominates the street scene. Switchers face the choice: hybrid or 100 percent electric? Both options have advantages and disadvantages
Electric driving has been on the rise for years, but is still waiting for the big breakthrough. On AutoScout24 you will find almost 7,000 hybrid cars versus almost 3,000 electric cars.
Especially among lease drivers, hybrid cars such as the Toyota Prius and the Mitsubishi Outlander made a rapid rise in the past decade due to the low addition of 4 percent. When that rate expired at the end of 2016, sales on the business market stagnated and individuals discovered the second-hand hybrid as a cheap alternative. Because up to 50 percent of the kilometers can be driven electrically, CO2 emissions are limited. For comparison: an average petrol car emits 113 grams per kilometer, a regular hybrid 87 grams and a hybrid with charging cable only 50 grams. A hybrid is also good for the wallet: loading is considerably cheaper than refueling.
How does the hybrid car relate to the fully electric car? The latter is more expensive to purchase and has a smaller operating radius, but has one major advantage over its hybrid 'competitor': CO2 emissions are zero. In the Netherlands, the Tesla Model S is by far the most popular, followed at a suitable distance by the Nissan Leaf and the Tesla Model X.
In contrast to the hybrid, the fully electric car still falls under the favorable additional tax rate of 4 percent. The government is fully committed to the transition to sustainable mobility: by 2030 all newly sold cars must be emission-free. If the higher asking price and the relatively limited range do not constitute an obstacle, the electric car will beat the hybrid. If that is the case but you still want to make a sustainable choice, then a hybrid is the perfect first step.
