In the midst of severe heat every day, children experienced out-of-season snow at a snow and ice research facility in Shinjo City, Yamagata Prefecture.

The experimental facility of the “National Institute for Science and Technology for Disaster Prevention” in Shinjo City was opened to the public, and approximately 250 people, including children during the summer vacation, visited from Tohoku prefectures.

Among them, the device that can freeze water vapor to 20 degrees below the freezing point reproduces sparkling diamond dust.

Also, in a room where it was possible to snow artificial snow close to nature, children in winter clothes looked at the out-of-season snow falling in large amounts from the ceiling.

The girl who participated said, “It was fun because the snow was fluffy. The snowstorm was strong and cold.”

Kenji Kosugi, Director of the Snow and Ice Environment Laboratory at the National Institute for Disaster Prevention Science and Technology, which he sponsored, said, “I want children to look at experiments with artificial snow and diamond dust and pay attention to science.”
