Jordanian MP Khalil Attia burns Israeli flag (social media)

Jordanian news websites and social media pages circulated on Thursday a video of a Jordanian lawmaker burning the Israeli flag inside the main hall of the Arab League, in the Egyptian capital Cairo.

The circulating clip showed MP Khalil Attia burning the Israeli flag, saying, "In revenge for the people of Gaza and in revenge for the martyrs of Gaza, we burn your flag, Zionists."

MP Attia then threw the flag to the ground and stepped on it, according to what appears in the video.

Jordanian news websites reported that this incident occurred "during Attia's participation in the Arab Parliament session in the main hall of the Arab League, which was held in Cairo, earlier Thursday."

There was no immediate comment from Jordan's parliament or the Arab League on the incident, nor did Israel immediately comment.

Attia, 65, is an independent member who has represented Amman's first constituency for seven consecutive parliamentary terms, holds a master's degree in private law, and is known for his advocacy of the Palestinian cause.
